The Bachelor of Education Degree course is mainly designed to prepare effective secondary school teachers to work in schools. The course essentially aims at helping student teachers become aware of certain new content, develop certain competencies and understand his/her multiple roles in the present context.
The course is geared to realise the following objectives and therefore shall attempt to develop in a student teacher.
Understanding of the essential foundations and basic principles of education.
Understanding the system, practices and the problems that accompanied the development of education in our country.
Understanding the nature and problems of secondary school children and ability to deal with them effectively.
Competencies for planning and execution of teaching learning and other concomitant educational Programme to be carried out in secondary schools.
Adequate content competency in two school subjects of specialisation so as to enable the student teacher to select, organise and teach the subjects effectively.
Understanding, appreciation and skills in respect of special approaches, learning experiences, methods and tools etc., adopted in curriculum planning, teaching and evaluation of the subjects of their specialisation.
Understanding of the general functioning and organisation of secondary schools and thereby acquire the ability to contribute towards effective curricular and co-curricular learning programmes in schools.
A spirit of experimentation towards the teaching-learning process.
A sound professional interest, attitude, ethics and a desire for continuous professional growth. Awareness for the need for extension activities in the community
ELIGIBILITY
1. Candidates must be citizens of India and should be candidates from Karnataka for claiming seats under Government quota.
” Karnataka candidates ” means,
i) Student who has studied for at least 7 (seven) full academic years in any one of the Government or Government recognized institutions in Karnataka from first Grade up to 2nd P.U.C / 12th Grade or qualifying examination and
ii) Passed either S.S.L.C / 10th standard or P.U.C / 12th standard examination in Karnataka only.
iii) Students who have passed either S.S.L.C or PUC through direct admissions or who have studied and passed in open schools, the period of seven years study shall not be insisted. However such candidates shall produce domicile certificate for 7 years from the Tahsildar of concerned Taluk.
Students who have passed either S.S.L.C or P.U.C either in open schools or as private candidates shall produce the relevant Marks Card or a certificate from the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board / Directorate of Pre-University Education which certifies that he / she is a ” private candidate”. In respect of candidates who have taken more than one year to pass a class / Grade, the years of academic study is counted as one year only for this purpose.
2. Candidates should have possessed any degree and / or post graduate degree or any equivalent degree from an university recognized by UGC, and should have passed all prescribed examinations at university level examinations only in degree and/or postgraduate degree or equivalent degree.
Hence, the applicants are advised to note this before seeking admission for B.Ed., Programmes. Candidates who have obtained degree from the Universities situated outside Karnataka State should have passed all the Three Years of Degree Exam at University level and at the time of admission shall produce all the three years degree marks cards issued by the concerned Universities. Marks cards issued by the college will not be considered. Regulation 4.2 applies to these candidates also.
3. All applicants shall have a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate including internal assessment marks in all three years/six semesters degree and/or post graduate degree or any equivalent degree including electives and languages form an university recognized by UGC.
However SC, ST, Cat-I and Physically handicapped candidates shall have minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate of scores as mentioned above.
4. In case grades are provided instead of marks to candidates, then the grade should be in the range percentage of scores as mentioned above.
5. In some Universities one subject (Ex: Constitution of India, Computer fundamentals etc.) are studied as subsidiary subjects. In case the University considers these marks in the total marks then it should be included in the application. If the University does not consider these marks in the total marks then the candidate has to till in the application without the marks in subsidiary subjects. In-service candidates working in Government / Aided Educational institutions shall compulsorily furnish service certificates, permission letters and no objection certificates for the study from the authorized officers of the government, and candidates working in aided institutions should furnish no objection certificate from the employer during admissions. In-service candidates will be treated at par with other candidates. No reservation is provided to In-service candidates.
6. Candidates who have passed degree / Post graduate degree in the terminal examination of the current year or previous years and obtained degree certificate from the University are only eligible for admissions to B.Ed., programme.
Eligibility criteria will be followed as per Government Rules mentioned in the Centralized Admission Cell prospectus.
7. In case, the candidate or parents or guardian furnishes / enclosures that are false or incorrect regarding marks card or statement of marks or a certificate or an affidavit along with the application, such application is liable for rejection. In case, a seat is allotted to such candidate, it shall be forfeited. Such candidates / parents / guardian as the case may be, shall be liable for legal punishment.
However, the University considers that action should be taken under appropriate rules for rejection of an application and cancellation of a seat and that it shall pass an appropriate order for rejection after holding an inquiry as it deems necessary and after giving reasonable opportunity to the candidates or his / her parents or guardian concerned to make a representation.
ALLOCATION OF SEATS:
i. Colleges shall admit all the candidates allotted by the Government of Karnataka through Centralized Admission Cell (CAC) or by any appropriate agency of the Government of Karnataka.
ii. For filling the other seats the respective college shall select the candidates following eligibility criteria as envisaged in Regulation 4.
iii. The college shall admit the selected candidates, both under Government quota and Management quota, within the last date fixed for admission by the Government and Davangere University.
iv. The total intake of B.Ed., college shall be 100 or as fixed by Government of Karnataka and NCTE from time to time.
v. Management Seats : The respective institutions shall invite applications from the eligible candidates for admissions in respect of Management seats and fill up such seats in accordance with the eligibility criteria and merit as per regulations.
vi. It is mandatory for all the institutions to get the approval for the list of candidates admitted to the B.Ed., programme from the University.
COURSE STRUCTURE
A course is the basic component of an academic programme. It is identified by a course name. Each Course to be offered will have three components associated with the teaching -learning process of the course, viz.,
(i) Lecture (L), (ii) Tutorial (T), (iii) Practical (P), where
” ‘L’ stands for lecture session.
” ‘T’ stands for tutorial session consisting of participatory discussion / self study / desk work / brief seminar presentations by students and other novel methods that make a student to assimilate the contents delivered in the lecture classes more effectively.
” ‘P’ stands for practice session and it consists of internship in teaching and its related activities / laboratory experiments / hand on experience / field studies / case studies that enables to equip the students to acquire much required skill component. A course shall have either one / two or all the three components based on its requirement.
The duration of one semester is 100 days for teaching – learning process. The total duration of a semester is 20 weeks inclusive of semester-end-examination.
Core Courses : Compulsory subjects of study which supports the main discipline.
Specialization – Pedagogical Courses :
Candidates shall opt any TWO – SCHOOL SUBJECTS for specialization, that are studied as a major / optional subject at the Degree level or Master Degree level. If the other subject offered for specialization has not been studied as major / minor optional by the candidate, the candidate is required to undergo a specially designed content course in that subject for at least 30 hours of teaching outside the regular working hours. A special fee shall be levied from such candidates who undergo content course. The candidates undergoing content course are examined internally. No candidates shall be permitted to opt for more than one language under special methods to teaching unless he / she has studied both the languages as optional at the Degree level.
An option for the candidates to choose a course from a pool of courses offered by the respective B.Ed. colleges of Davangere University is provided below, Each candidate should choose a combination of 2 Specialization courses for the B.Ed. Programme from the offered combination by the respective colleges.
Compulsory courses : Candidates shall study a compulsory course supporting teaching and learning process.
Elective Courses : Candidates can choose one course from five courses offered by the respective B.Ed., colleges of Davangere University.

SCHEME OF INSTRUCTIONS
1. B.Ed programme is of 2 semesters (one year duration). A candidate can avail a maximum of 4 semesters (2years) to complete the programme (including blank semesters, if any). Whenever a candidate opts for blank semester/s, the candidate has to study the prevailing course/s offered by the college when one continues the studies, by paying the prescribed fees of the University. Practice teaching and related activities to be conducted in II semester in a block period of 30 working days for both CCM-I & CCM-II by the respective B.Ed., College.
2. Physical & Health Education, SUPW & CCA to be conducted in both the semesters for on period per week in each of compulsory practicum.
3. Skill development course on communicative English in I semester and Personality development in the II semester should be organized by the B.Ed., colleges.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The medium of instruction shall be either English or in Kannada. However, the candidates are allowed to write the examination either in English or Kannada.
ATTENDANCE:
i) As per UGC guidelines, shall deemed to have been completed course of Bachelor of Education if he/she has put in attendance of a minimum 85% of the total number of working periods under each subject in theory and practicum.
ii) Candidates shall be required to keep additional term in the shortage of attendance exceeds the limit prescribed in the subjects in which the shortage has been recorded. Such students who fail to complete the course with 85% attendance shall not be allowed to take the examination.
ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE THE EXAMINATION:
Candidate shall be eligible to appear at the final examination only after satisfactory completed the following additional work and has maintained proper records: These records should be submitted before the co-ordination board during its visit to the college.
i) Participation in a field trip such as visit to Schools/Special Schools, Science
Clubs/Museums may be organized by the college.
ii) Participation in seminars/symposia/programmes organized by the college
for professional advancement.
iii) Each student teacher has to compulsorily participate and submit a report on participation in 3 days citizenship training camp conducted by the Colleges either in I or II semester.

” Declaration of rank, gracing, challenge valuation, provision for appeal are as per the existing regulations of Davangere University.
” The candidate has to pass both in internal assessment and theory examination with 40% pass percentage i.e., minimum 40 ( IA 10 + Theory 30 ) in each paper and an aggregate of 50 in all the papers. In case of Exemption for a paper, minimum passing marks is 50% IA is mandatory for each paper.
” There is no provision for improvement of Internal Assessment.
” In case the candidate does not appear for IA in the first attempt then He / She should appear as a repeater of the semester after seeking readmission to that semester.
